Tom's Top 3: December 2, 2025
Streaming Scorsese
Hi everyone! Welcome to this week’s installment of Tom’s Top 3 Tuesdays, where I highlight three pieces of content (Podcasts/Shows/Songs/Articles/etc.) that I found interesting or noteworthy from the prior week.
Please toss me a like and share this with as many people as you can!!! Whoever you think might find this newsletter informative, entertaining, funny, idc—just drop them a link. It really helps grow the newsletter, so I greatly appreciate the support!
[Docuseries] British Film Institute - A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese through American Movies
Though it only covers American film through the 1960’s or so, I loved this series precisely because it is through Martin Scorsese’s eyes. By highlighting many of his favorite movies and filmmakers, we get to see the influences that have shaped Scorsese’s taste and style.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t know 80% of the films discussed, and I am not sure I will ever see them. But if you’re a fan of Scorsese or a fan of film history, this series is must watch stuff, and a perfect complement to the Scorsese Apple TV docuseries I shared a couple weeks ago.
Scorsese described himself as a lifelong learner: “the more pictures I’ve made in the last 20 years, the more I’ve realized I really don’t know, and I’m always looking for something or someone that I can learn from.”
Here are a few other quotes that are absolute gold and strangely still relevant today:
George Lucas, on CGI
“We’ve changed the medium in a way that is profound. It is no longer a photographic medium. It’s now a painterly medium.”
Francis Ford Coppola
“The technology is always an element of creativity, but it never is the source of the creativity. And so my attitude is to embrace technology as it comes.”
Brian De Palma
“In any kind of art form you are creating an illusion for the audience to look at reality through your special eye. The camera lies all the time. Lies 24 times a second.”
[Streaming Service] Kanopy
I know what you must be thinking… “But Tom, you idiot, you wrote about Kanopy over a year ago.”
You’re right. And you also have a weirdly good memory.
I just wanted to reshare Kanopy with everyone this week because it really is that special.
Kanopy, I remind you, is free (and ad free) with a library card, and they have some good stuff!
Earlier this week, I was listening to a podcast episode of The Big Picture which referenced the aforementioned Scorsese docuseries. When I looked up where to stream it, I saw the series is only available to stream on Kanopy.
Perusing the rest of their catalog, I added so many movies to my watchlist. To name some:
Point Break
The Conversation
Rashomon
12 Angry Men
Anatomy of a Fall
The Master
[YouTube] Star Wars Explained - Everything Coming in 2026!
New year, new (cautiously) high hopes for Lucasfilm.
This video covers all of the major Star Wars content coming in 2026, whether it be movies, shows, books, comics, or games.
Here are the three that I am most looking forward to (in order of excitement):
[TV Show] Maul: Shadow Lord
I’m so hyped for this, you don’t even know
[Movie] The Mandalorian and Grogu
[TV Show] Ahsoka Season 2
For more information on each of these, and to learn what other Star Wars content is coming out next year, check out the video!

That wraps up this edition of Tom’s Top 3 Tuesdays. If you made it to this point, please drop a 1️⃣, 2️⃣, or 3️⃣ in the comments to let me know what you found most interesting/useful. And as always, please like and consider sharing with a friend who you think would enjoy! I’ll be back next week. ✌️
