Hi everyone! Welcome to this week’s installment of Tom’s Top 3 Tuesdays, where I highlight three pieces of content (Podcasts/Shows/Songs/Articles/etc.) that I found interesting or noteworthy from the prior week.
Let’s get into it:
[2-Part YouTube Series] Erik K Swanson - Inside His Amazing Home in the Tunnels Beneath New York - Mole People
These two videos really inspired me.
Not because I aspire to live in a sewer beneath New York City, but because of the resilience, ingenuity, and gratitude of Carlos.
It really made me realize all of the little things that I take for granted in everyday life.
I can look past Carlos’ whacky beliefs on “Judgement Day,” which he describes in this follow-up video, 10 years after living in the tunnel.
One thing Carlos said really stuck with me:
But now is better than before… Because I love to be in a place that you are free.
[YouTube] Ted-Ed - How humanity got hooked on coffee - Jonathan Morris
I love my coffee. But I honestly don’t really know that much about it, especially not it’s history.
In just over 5 minutes, this video does a great job describing the origin and proliferation of that beautiful bean juice, from the 1400’s through modern day.
The video ends by highlighting the ethical challenges of coffee production—poor working conditions and insufficient compensation. While there are some criticisms of the efficacy of Fair Trade certifications, I still try to buy sustainably sourced coffee when I can (Trader Joe’s is my go-to for that).
[Song] J. Cole - January 28
Get it??
As the song elucidates, today is J. Cole’s birthday. In fact, today is his 40th.
Happy bday to the GOAT.
That wraps up this edition of Tom’s Top 3 Tuesdays. If you made it to this point, please drop a 1️⃣, 2️⃣, or 3️⃣ in the comments to let me know what you found most interesting/useful. And as always, please like and consider sharing with a friend who you think would enjoy! I’ll be back next week. ✌️
