[Blog] The Points Guy - Chase Sapphire Reserve changes: New earning rates, more statement credits for a higher annual fee
Chase recently announced that the popular Sapphire Reserve card was going to be refreshed on June 23. This has been rumored for some time, but now we have the confirmation directly from Chase. This TPG blog does a great job of highlighting the details.
Annual Fee: $795 (up from $550)
Spending Categories:
Travel Booked Through Chase Portal: 8x
Flights and Hotels Booked Directly: 4x (was 3x)
Dining: 3x
Lyft Rides: 5x
Else: 1x
Statement Credits & Perks:
Travel: $300 (remains)
The Edit (Chase luxury hotel collection): $500
StubHub: $300
DoorDash: $300 + DashPass Membership ($120 value)
Tables (Sapphire luxury dining collection): $300
Apple TV and Apple Music: $250
Lyft: $120
Peleton: $120
IHG Platinum Elite Status (IHG’s second highest status level)
If you’re not into the whole credit card game, you might be asking yourself: “why on Earth would anyone pay $795 for a credit card… just for the opportunity to pay more money?”

All-in-all, Chase boasts that the cumulative $2,700 in credits more than cover the exorbitant annual fee. Ultimately, that comes down to if those credits fit in line with your normal spending habits.
Personally, I think I’d get about $1,100 in value, so I would technically get a positive from holding the card. The spending categories also makes it a compelling daily-driver, but I have other cards with overlapping categories.
I am personally planning on getting the card, but primarily for the sign-up bonus. You can only receive a Sapphire sign-up bonus once every four years, and I become eligible in August. The sign-up bonus is expected to be north of 100,000 points, so I will be keeping an eye out for the final details on June 23.
[YouTube] NCAA Championships - Rare MCWS no-hitter
An absolutely electric performance from Gage Wood.
9 innings, 27 outs, 19 strikeouts, no hits. All in an elimination game.
[Video Game] Astro Bot
If you like cutesy adventure games and own a PS5, this game is for you.
It’s like an iPhone game on steroids. Simple and approachable, yet beautifully designed. The whole game is one giant advertisement for PlayStation, but they earned it with this one.
Being an ad, there is also a free version if you want to try before you buy.
That wraps up this edition of Tom’s Top 3 Tuesdays. If you made it to this point, please drop a 1️⃣, 2️⃣, or 3️⃣ in the comments to let me know what you found most interesting/useful. And as always, please like and consider sharing with a friend who you think would enjoy! I’ll be back next week. ✌️
