Hi everyone! Welcome to this week’s installment of Tom’s Top 3 Tuesdays, where I highlight three pieces of content (Podcasts/Shows/Songs/Articles/etc.) that I found interesting or noteworthy from the prior week.
If you’re new here, please consider subscribing to my newsletter — the creatively named: Tom’s Newsletter. In addition to posts like these, I write about my interests (the entertainment industry, sports, fitness, productivity, and more!) and books that I am reading.
If you find at least one thing in this post useful, please drop a like and share with a friend using the link below. I really appreciate the support!
Let’s get into it.
[YouTube] In Depth Cine - Why Movies From The 70s & 80s Look Like This
The late 70s / early 80s have some of my favorite films, and not just because I am a Harrison Ford fanboy. Movies from this era have a certain familiarity and warmth that is comforting for me.
Turns out, there’s a reason for this, and it has to do everything with technology. During this period, most films were shot on the same stock: Kodak Eastman Negative II 100T 5247.
The muted pastels, sharp reds, and deep shadows that are commonly associated with iconic 70s/80s films (Star Wars, ET, The Shining, Apocalypse Now) is due to the ubiquity of the Kodak Eastman Negative II at the time. With modern cameras and editing technology, we are able to clearly show a wide arrange of different colors and hues. This is the reason why no two movies today have the same kind of visual feel.
Now I’m not going to act like an expert on film stock—honestly I was just trying to keep up for most of the video. Nevertheless, I found it fascinating to learn how technology largely influences creative expression.
[Free Entertainment] Kanopy
In honor of Library Card Sign-up Month, I bring you this hidden gem. These days it costs $7.99 just to watch an episode of The Office (with ads), so a free streaming service sounds too good to be true.
Kanopy gives you access to hundreds of movies just for having a library card. And it’s not just minute-filler, nonsense content—there are actually some great flicks.
Go support your local library. Library cards are an under-appreciated asset. It’s literally free books, everyone. And now, with Kanopy, free movies. :)
[My Personal Kryptonite] Trader Joe’s - Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips
I’m not like a “spicy food guy,” or anything. But these little things are so unbelievably good, I had to yell it from a mountaintop.
Just be careful, they’re incredibly addicting. Before you know it, the bag’s empty, and you’re looking for you next hit. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

That wraps up this edition of Tom’s Top 3 Tuesdays. If you know anyone who would like this newsletter, please consider sharing. I’ll be back next week. ✌️
Too true about those tortilla chips wahaha; so deadly but I love them
